As the days grow darker and the cold comes creeping into our bones — as the leaves fall, as the wind calls in the night, as winter wakes from his slumber and begins to gnaw at the door, it is the perfect time for an evening of unsettling stories. Portland Story Theater’s Spellbound takes the tradition of telling scary stories to the next level. Crafted to conjure the spirit of All Hallow’s Eve, listeners will be drawn into tales of the strange, eerie, and genuinely frightening. The Alberta Abbey is the perfect setting for an evening of storytelling surrounding the unsettling and spooky occurrences we all have that can’t easily be explained… The mysterious memories that haunt you in the night as you lie in bed, awakened by a dream…

Hosted by Sam A. Mowry and featuring Tim Stapleton, Mary Welch, Annie la Ganga, along with Founders Lawrence Howard and Lynne Duddy.

Welcome to the Doll Asylum. We are a place for the old, the decrepit, the forgotten…the insane. We try to ‘fix’ those we can, and provide a place of refuge for those we can’t.

Founded in 1867 by German Dr. Hermann Reinhardt, the Doll Asylum’s purpose was to receive dolls who were abandoned, neglected, or most importantly, showing signs of psychotic or murderous behavior.

Doll Maker by hobby, Dr. Reinhardt thought he could bridge the gap between the inanimate and animate and stomp out the dark thoughts that lay beneath.

While no true success was to be had in his day, Dr. Reinhardt did establish a home for those unwanted creatures and in doing so, has protected society at large.

Doll Asylum will be open October 23-25, 30-31 from 5-9pm. There is no admission but if you would like to admit a doll to the asylum, they would be happy to help.

Adults and children accompanied by adults are welcome for a tour of the Asylum.

WARNING!:
If you find dolls or the macabre offensive, this open house may not be for you. Then again, you only live once… right?​

Long term effects may occur for both Children and Adults (good or bad, it’s hard to say). You may have trouble sleeping for a few nights, then be OK , then get really creep’d out with a scary doll dream, then think it’s over, then wake up screaming…This may go on for some time.​​​

12th Annual West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta in Tualatin

If you’ve never been to the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta odds are you’ve never seen anyone sit inside a giant pumpkin let alone race one across a lake dressed as a superhero or the tooth fairy.

Over the last 11 years the award-winning West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta has become Oregon’s best October event. Spectators come from not only  the Pacific Northwest but also from all over the United States and Canada. The event has been featured by a wide variety of local, regional, and national media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, CNN, the Travel Channel, Better Homes and Gardens, HGTV, and Food Network Magazine.

Admission to the festival is free as are most of the activities.

Free Fall Festival @ Congress Center

Portland Mall Management, Inc. is hosting a FREE fall festival next Monday, October 19th at Congress Center at 1001 SW 5th Ave.! Local sculptors Lorie Gordon and Bert Adams will live-sculpt two 75lb pumpkins. There will be an apple tasting from Hood River’s Kiyokawa Family Orchards. Hot apple cider samples will be provided by Caffe Viale.

Attendees will be able to take home free apples, pumpkins, and candy corn. And live banjo music from local musician Austin Quattlebaum will provide an upbeat atmosphere for the entire event! Attendees can also prepare for the cool fall weather by entering to win a Pendleton Crater Lake Park blanket!

Halloween Pumpkin Festival @ Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm

It’s been a long, hot summer so there’s no better way to celebrate the first weekend in autumn than down on the farm. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm will host hundreds of families as they celebrate Pumpkin Fest from September 25 through October 31.This year kicks off the first ever, Mud, Sweat and Beers 5K run and Brewfest, on October 3 at the Farm, presented by the Woodburn Rotary to benefit the Woodburn Boys and Girls Club.

“We are thrilled we can add to our offerings this year with the 5K run and brew fest on October 3rd, while still offering all the family-friendly hands on activities our visitors have come to expect for more than an entire month,” said Barb Iverson, owner, Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. “And of course, we’reexpecting zombies to make their annual visit during October’s Fields of Terror. So, now is the time to practice your paintball skills.”

Pumpkin Fest Activities

Archery practice range: Archery is one of the most popular events at the Pumpkin Festival. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, archers can practice on the range with foam tipped arrows.

Archery Tag: In the spirit of dodge ball, archery tag is a group activity that uses foam tipped arrows to “tag”, all opposing players or hit all targets on their target board.

Fields of Terror

For the popular Fields of Terror, the bravest visitors (suggested 13-and-over) are boarded onto a hay wagon and taken to the fire pit holding area. From there visitors will either climb into the Zombie Hunter, take a ride in the haunted corn maze or walk the terrorizing hay maze. The Fields of Terror activities take place on Friday and Saturday evenings from October 3 through October 31.

About Wooden Shoe Farm

The Iverson Family Farm started in 1950 with the marriage of Ross & Dorothy Iverson and their purchase of the main farm. In 1974, the family began growing tulips and by the early 1980, the acreage had expanded to 15 acres.  In 1983, Wooden Shoe Bulb Company (changed to Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in 2001) was formed to market bulbs on a retail level.  In1985, it opened the tulip fields for the weekend to the public. Today, the fields are open for an entire month twice a year, in the spring for the Tulip Festival and the fall for the Pumpkin Festival.   It is also open from March to December on weekends for wine tasting.  More information can be found at woodenshoe.com.

National organization Run Like A Mother announces its 2015 5K race in Portland. Runners will experience a scenic closed course run in beautiful Cook Park in Tigard on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10. This year, Run Like A Mother Portland is proud to support the Northwest Mother’s Milk Bank. Northwest Mother’s Milk Bank is proud to be the only non-profit human milk bank in the Pacific Northwest. Their mission is to collect, pasteurize and distribute donor human milk for medical needs. Their values guide the work that they do; community, health, compassion, integrity and generosity.

Race participants will have a number of unique opportunities to support this important community charity. Runners can make a donation when they register for the race, or they can choose to purchase a special charity registration, which includes race entry, specialized Run Like A Mother bib, merchandise and more.

A celebration of women, Run Like A Mother was founded in 2008 by Ridgefield, CT resident and certified personal trainer, coach and author Megan Searfoss. Since its start, Run Like A Mother has encouraged more than 25,000 women in all stages of motherhood (novice, new and experienced) across the country to make running a part of their life.

“Through Run Like A Mother, women everywhere can feel motivated and inspired to get on their feet and keep exercising,” said Searfoss. “The race gives women an opportunity to be a part of something that helps them meet their fitness goals while giving back to the community.”

It‘s a fun filled show, with activities for the entire family. Admission is FREE and venue parking is $6. Attendees can save on parking by taking a free shuttle bus to the fairgrounds. There were two locations you could catch the shuttle: C-Tran's Fisher's Landing Transit Center on 164th Avenue, and the 99th Street Transit Center at Stockford Village.

We encourage canned food donations for local food banks or cash donations to Operation Warm Heart, but visitors don’t have to spend another dime at the fair unless they want to.

With more than 20,000 people who attend this three-day show each year, the Home & Garden Idea Fair has become one of the most popular community events in Clark County.


The 24th annual Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair will be held at the Clark County Event Center, located at 17402 NE Delfel Road in Ridgefield, Washington, just nine miles north of the I-5 bridge at exit 9.

Poa Cafe Family Film Night

Welcome to Poa! - stands for "cool" in Swahilli and is often used in a greeting exchange between friends- long story, ask it. These people are completely wonderful. Once a week on friday nights they throw an event call Family Film Night. It's a free movie and all the food is cheap, like REALLY cheap. Their happy hour drinks and snack foods are all under $5 and come with free popcorn. Mmmm popcorn....

They have a nice space inside for your kids to play in while you are figuring out what you want to eat or drink and then on to the movie!

Their back area is under construction (only a lil' bit) for a fire-pit, picnic tables and, soon to be sand pit, mud kitchen, sand wall, water feature, and ETC.! This way you won't have to worry about your kids getting bored because their is a lot for kids to do.

Ladybug Walk- March 13th

Ladybug Walks are perfect for preschoolers and parents who want to explore nature in Portland's parks with trained preschool naturalists! Children are guided along the trails of various parks in all corners of the city by an Environmental Educator. Walks go at just the right pace and introduce children to forests, water, insects, plants, and animals!

On march 13th, everyone is meeting up at Tideman-Johnson Natural Area. It's near the restrooms/parking lot just off of Johnson Creek Blvd where it crosses the Springwater Corridor. Parking lot is just to the north of the Space-Pak warehouse at 4403 SE Johnson Creek Blvd. Bus #75

Children's Honeybee Hike

Every Wednesday at 10-11 am, ages 2-5 years explore the garden with a guide, learning about plants and looking for wildlife; followed by listening to a story or making a craft item.
