Open Gym at The Children's Gym in NE PDX

Children crawling and up are invited to come play in our gymnastics facility whenever they hold Open Gym! A responsible adult must accompany children on the floor. Open Gym happens about everyday from 12:30 to 1:30 Monday- Friday and 1 to 2 on the weekends.

The Children's Gym occupies the space between 16th and 17th Ave on Sandy Blvd, a 12,000 square foot facility. Their gymnastics equipment collection is extensive, encompassing 4 long beams, 2 short beams, low rings, high rings, 3 spring boards that create 3 separate vaulting spaces, a thirty-foot Tumbl Trak, parallel bars, uneven bars, 3 unique sets of junior bars, a large rectangular trampoline, and a 24 by 30 foot floor space for tumbling.

They even have mats of all shapes, sizes, and colors, and the entire gymnastics apparatus area is covered in 2-inch-thick, specially made gymnastics flooring to absorb shock and protect against injury.

For members, cost is $5 for the 1st child and $3 for each additional child. For non-members, cost is $10 for the 1st child and $5 for each additional child.

Home and Garden Idea Fair!

Clark Public Utilities are pleased to provide this outstanding event for their customer-owners as a way to share important information about utility programs and services that benefit you. But even more, this show provides the perfect opportunity for local businesses and organizations to promote their home and garden related products and services to the communities they serve.

The fair features hundreds of ideas on how to make your home, yard and garden a more beautiful, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly place. Here's the 2015 Show Guide, available in local newspapers just before the event, to give you an idea of what you can look forward to when you join them at the Home & Garden Idea Fair.

It‘s a fun filled show, with activities for the entire family. Admission is FREE and venue parking is $6. Attendees can save on parking by taking a free shuttle bus to the fairgrounds. There were two locations you could catch the shuttle: C-Tran's Fisher's Landing Transit Center on 164th Avenue, and the 99th Street Transit Center at Stockford Village.

We encourage canned food donations for local food banks or cash donations to Operation Warm Heart, but visitors don’t have to spend another dime at the fair unless they want to.

With more than 20,000 people who attend this three-day show each year, the Home & Garden Idea Fair has become one of the most popular community events in Clark County.


The 24th annual Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair will be held at the Clark County Event Center, located at 17402 NE Delfel Road in Ridgefield, Washington, just nine miles north of the I-5 bridge at exit 9.

YogaFamily

Using the power of yoga, storytelling and your imagination, we will embark on a yoga-inspired, magical adventure each week. Children get their wiggles out, connect with caregiver and themselves, increase self-awareness and mindfulness, build strength and confidence, socialize and have fun (approx. ages 2-102). This class is only 1 hour long. Come and play!

Drop-In Messy Art at Spark Arts Center

Pre-School Messy Art is a great way to engage with your child creatively. Multiple stations are set up with a variety of artistic experiences for you and your child to explore. We provide all materials (art smocks, too!) and change them weekly. Projects are designed for kids ages 2-6 and include clay, painting, stamping, sculpture, collage, and more.

$7/ 1 hour; $10/ 2 hours. No charge for adults. Limited to 12 kids at any one time.

Trackers Rovers Forest School

The Rovers

Kids Cook at the Market

Junior chefs age seven to eleven cultivate their culinary skills and experience a cornucopia of farm-fresh foods by enrolling in cooking classes held at PFM’s Saturday market.

At these classes, kids learn about the seasonality of food, meet local farmers, and gain first-hand experience preparing ingredients purchased fresh at the market. Classes are taught by instructors and students of The International Culinary School at the Art Institute of Portland and include a guided market tour, hands-on instruction and recipes to take home so students can share what they learn with family and friends.

Kids Cook classes are held at the PSU Market on Saturdays in June, July and August.  The classes run from 8:30am – 10:00am and cost $5 per child per class.

"Stained Glass" for Kids- April 12th

Make beautiful stained glass designs using recycled plastic, melted crayons, paper and paint with artist Addie Boswell. After drawing and cutting a design for your window frame, you can mix a variety of colors for the glass. Take your finished art home to catch sunlight in the windows and brighten up your spring. Nontoxic and great for ages 5-10.

Do Jump!- Family Workshop

The Do Jump School is a non-profit physical theater school that offers classes, camps and workshops in trapeze, creative movement, physical theater, acrobatics, aerial dance, juggling and more to students of all ages and skill levels.

Students gain confidence, strength and grace in a cooperative, creative and fun environment! Our amazing staff of professional performers, acrobats and aerialists encourages students to explore their own imaginations while working together with others to solve problems and create unique physical theater productions. Through play-based learning, we emphasize student strengths & create an environment where the outcome of learning is less important than the process of discovery.

Offerings include Baby Circus, Aerial Yoga, Teen Aerial Dance, Partner Acrobatics, Aerial Tissu, Lyra, Home School, Performance Groups, Physical Theater, Trapeze and much more! Ages 1 – 100!

Classes take place at the Echo Theater in SE and the Multnomah Arts Center in SW.

Stumptown Yoga

I love yoga because it teaches us the law of Karma. Simply put--every action has an equal and opposite reaction--when we are generous to others, the generosity will be returned to us. It teaches children how to relax and meditate while having fun.

Their kids and parents yoga class is especially made for ages 2-6 years, but all ages are welcome. Caregivers & kids are taken through a structured class format and playful poses, games and activities to give the entire family a way to interact, be silly, connect and enjoy the community of other parents & bond with your children in a comfortable setting. Poses are practiced both individually and as a family in a relaxed environment; parents are encouraged to help their kids along but still let them explore their own bodies. There is $10 drop-in fee per family (up to four members), $45 for a 5-class punch card ($9/classes), and $80 for a 10-class punch card ($8/classes). Both punch cards expire 1 year from date of purchase and its cash and checks only!

Located at 3235 SE 39th Ave (a.k.a Cesar E Chavez Boulevard), Stumptown Yoga is located one block north of the intersection of Powell and 39th Ave.
The east-west #75 bus stops right in front of the studio, and the north-south #9 stop is 1/2 block south.
There is plentiful off-street parking as well as a public lot in front of the mall across the street.

Snow Day Crafting

I love these guy for their awesome furniture and soft, cool, bedding! And guess what I know? That they love to entertain our kids! Pottery Barn has a story time every week and also offers classes on a rotating schedule.

Right now their hold a Snow Day Crafting Workshop, kids start snagging carpet spots around 10:30 but the friendly staff doesn't mind them hanging around! The workshop begins on every Tuesday around 11:30 a.m. at Washington Square's Pottery Barn. The crafts are for 3 year olds and up. Also it costs $5 per kit.

They also hold a reading event every Tuesday at 11 a.m. for kids of all ages. They will read about 3 to 4 books and the best part is that they mix it up so that there's something for all ages. Call for more details if interested! 503-598-1858.

Lowes- Build and Grow!

Love to build things? Lowes offers free workshop clinics for kids where they don safety goggles and get busy building and painting! A different kit is available each month and might be a jewelry box, a car or a birdhouse, to name a few. Lowes offers there free "Build and Grow Clinics" every second Saturday of the month at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

If you want to bring a group (playgroup, Scouts, etc.), call ahead. The friendly and helpful staff are super about accommodating you to make sure there are enough kits, and in most cases, give you a tour and demonstrate everything from paint mixing to cool tools.They ask that you preregister at lowes.com!

Michaels Classes!

Feeling a little creative? Your local Michaels stores sell everything you need to craft it up, and – awesome enough– they offer a wide array of classes for kids, from cupcake decorating to friendship bracelet making! Most have a fee, but each month there is a free family activity, too. On Jan. 26, for example, most Portland stores will host a free Valentine making bash! Although they have an online calendar, not all the kids’ classes are listed. You will get more up-to-date and personalized information by calling your neighborhood store.
Now the classes vary, which is pretty awesome, and their classes are even for various ages. The best part is that some prices are even as low as $2!
