Zen Shorts is the story of how Stillwater the panda becomes friends with three kids Addy, Michael and Karl. Stillwater teaches each child lessons through stories that help them handle the events in their lives. Zen stories are designed to challenge our perspective on our own lives through emotions such as anger, worrying and jealousy.

Skippyjon Jones: A Premiere Musical!

MEET SKIPPYJON, a Siamese cat who thinks he’s one of the birds. He enjoys sleeping in their nest, sharing their breakfast of worms, and bathing in Mrs. Doohiggy’s birdbath. In frustration, Mama Junebug Jones sends him to his room to ponder what it means to be a Siamese cat. Instead, Skippyjon discovers his alter ego – “El Skippito” – a superhero Chihuahua. Clothed in a green cape and mask, he sets off into his closet and emerges in far, far away Mexico for a rip-roaring musical adventure.

This production is recommended for children ages 4 and up. This play is going on at The Newmark Theater at 1111 SW Broadway, Downtown Portland

Q. Who can buy $5 tickets?
A. Anyone who qualifies for and has a valid Oregon Trail Card.

Q. Where do I get $5 tickets?
A. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Lakewood box office on DAY OF SHOW up to 60-minutes before curtain. (You can call to reserve tickets on day of show but your transaction must be completed at least 60 minutes before curtain). Please note: tickets are subject to availability. Check show listings for dates and availability.

Q. How do I buy the tickets?
A. You must show your Oregon Trail Card at the time of purchase and pay with cash or credit card. SNAP credit on the Oregon Trail Card cannot be used for purchasing show tickets.


Q. What tickets can I buy?

A. You may purchase up to four tickets for each mainstage show or children’s theatre production, subject to availability. (Not valid for special events.) Please note: there is a limited number of tickets available.

The Monkey King

Tears of Joy Theatre continues its 2013-2014 Family Series with Monkey King, January 31 – February 9, 2014, at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th in Portland.

This classic tale of China’s favorite trickster features 30 spectacular puppets created in China for Tears of Joy, and written and directed by seventh generation puppet master, Yang Feng. Join Monkey, his master, and the comical Bajeer the pig, on an epic adventure. Watch as acrobatic monkeys fly through the air and magical transformations occur before your eyes!

New Ticket Prices! To make high quality cultural theatre affordable to more families, Tears of Joy has dropped their prices. Adults are $18, Seniors/Students are $15 and Children are $13. They also offer a new option called a Puppet Pass. For $50, families can buy a ‘Puppet Pass’ and get unlimited $12 tickets to any show all year long.

Oregon Children's Theatre

This cool theater has wonderful performances that invite the audience on stage. It is made to be accessible to all patrons, including barrier- free access for those in wheel chairs and even sign interpreted performances. Though you need to call them about the interpreted performances- the number is 503-228-9571.

First Timer First Saturdays: $5 children's tickets!

If you have never purchased tickets to their plays, you can qualify for their First Timer First Saturdays offer. Children's tickets are only $5 each with a purchase of a regular priced adult ticket. This will only be available on the first performance on Saturday of each play. You can choose either a 2 p.m. or 5 p.m. performance though so it's not too bad. It's limited to only 5 discounted tickets per order so keep that in mind!

Arts for All

The Oregon Children's Theatre is also participating in the Arts for All program which means that if you have an Oregon Trail Card, you qualify for four tickets at $5 each. You need to purchase tickets in advance and show them your card when you pick up your tickets. Call 503-228-9571 x113 to purchase tickets!

Grandparents Day!

They have a special senior (62 and better) ticket prices on the first and last Sunday of each show. Tickets are $13 - $20!
