Junior Parade

Samba-Band - Junior Parade Portland Rose FestivalFrom the moment the lovable Fred Bear cuts the ribbon to kick off the Fred Meyer Junior Parade, fun reigns. Children come from all parts of the city to join in: dressing in costume, transforming wagons into floats, decorating their bikes with colorful flowers, or just parading with their pets (and parents!). Elementary and Middle School marching bands fill the Hollywood District with song, and dance teams add swirls of color to the celebration. No matter how they participate in this pint-size parade, the kids enjoy their moment in the spotlight on FOX 12 live, local television.
From the very beginning, the Portland Rose Festival has celebrated our community’s children. The first Rose Festival in 1907 included a children’s parade of 2000 boys and girls representing 23 schools! An official Rose Festival event since 1936, the Junior Parade is the nation’s oldest and largest children’s parade.

2104 Grand Marshal
The Fred Meyer Junior Parade welcomes the Portland Police Bureau K-9 Unit as Grand Marshal of the 2014 parade! This year we honor the fearless loyalty these special dogs bring to the Police Bureau and the community.

2014 Junior Parade Sections
The 2014 Junior Parade has four sections celebrating elements of Portland’s community and parts of every kid’s life. In Procession of the Species presented by Laurelwood Public House, kids dress up in their favorite animal costume and roar, quack and purr. Be active. Play safe. Stay healthy. presented by Randall Children’s Hospital will feature groups who promote fitness and children showing how fun it is to be active. Our Best Friends presented by MudBay showcases the great friendships that Portland children get to form at school and during their fun activities! In Success of Tomorrow! presented by hibu, children prove how they can cruise to success by riding bikes, balancing on unicycles, and even bouncing on pogo sticks! Everyone gets a time to shine in the Junior Parade!

The 2014 Fred Meyer Junior Parade is filled with music from 31 elementary and middle school marching bands featuring the greater Portland/Vancouver metro area. Community groups, dance, drill and baton twirlers fill the Junior Parade with sparkles, bright colors, and plenty of fun!
