Halloween Party 80s Video Dance Attack @ Crystal Ballroom

80s Video Dance Attack
The 4th Annual 80s Video Dance Attack Halloween Party! Hosted by McMenamins Crystal Ballroom this spooky 80s extravaganza is the perfect way to celebrate the scariest holiday of the year! All your favorite 80s hits plus plenty of Halloween themed videos! Our supersized holiday setup plus tons of surprises as well.
Before it mutated into a weaponized haze of reality shows, MTV aired a novelty known as the music video. These bite-sized works of art, which married pop songs to striking imagery, revolutionized the entertainment industry and ushered in an era of music known as “new wave.” For the task of curating and introducing these fresh sounds and flamboyant sights to audiences, MTV even created its own version of the disc jockey—the VJ.
Though MTV has sent its stable of video jockeys out to pasture, VJ Kittyrox carries the pastel, shoulder-padded torch of Adam Curry and Nina Blackwood as she masterminds the 80s Video Dance Attack. For the last seven years, this popular shindig has united generations of Portlandians with its five-hour feast of ’80s-centric sensation. Across 10-foot screens, VJ Kittyrox projects classic videos from artists such as Duran Duran and Michael Jackson as audiences of Breakfast Clubbers and Pretty in Pinkers perfect their cabbage patch, running man, and Pat Benatar shimmies. A bombastic, thumping sound system and a dazzling light show accentuate the time warp as audiences deck themselves in ’80s garb and shake away memories of unsolved rubik’s cubes.

Adults Only! Portland Halloween Walking Tour of Portland’s Sinful Past

Portland's Sinful Past Walking Tour
As a nexus for labor and shipping in the Pacific Northwest, Portland often had the repute of a rugged, rough and tumble town, more than willing to allow the miners, loggers, and fishermen an opportunity to part with their hard earned cash in whatever debaucherous manner they chose.

In addition to the shanghaiers and con men, always on the prowl, saloons, gambling halls and bordellos also thrived in “Whitechapel,” “The North End,” or Old Town, as we know it today. Some of these storied establishments have come and gone, but others have survived, and many say that Portland, or “Strip City,” still has that vulgar and rugged reputation to this day.

Join Historian Doug Kenck-Crispin as we visit locations of famous saloons, bars and bordellos, card rooms and gambling dens, some of which are still in operation today! The tour will meet at Thirsty Lion Pub. Feel free to stop by early for a pint and grub! The tour will “end” outside of Mary’s Club, one of Portland’s most hallowed strip clubs*. At the conclusion of the tour, you can join Doug inside for an adult beverage!

Doug Kenck-Crispin is the Ribald Resident Historian from www.orhistory.com. He is the co-producer of the bi-weekly podcast series Kick Ass Oregon History. Doug has been featured in the Portland Mercury, The Oregonian, Portland Monthly and OPB’s Oregon Experience. He has a BA in History, and is nearing completion of his MA in Public History, with an emphasis on the History of the Pacific Northwest (Portland State University). A lifelong resident of the region, Doug enjoys a good yarn, the more bizarre and unbecoming the better, especially when they are true!

Portland 2014 Halloween Theater: The Reformers Present The Turn

The Reformers Present The Turn
A remote estate. A new caretaker. A classic ghost story re-imagined.
The Reformers are thrilled to announce their upcoming fall production The Turn, their thrilling adaptation of Henry James’ classic ghost story Turn of the Screw.
The Turn is the tale of a woman hired to look after an orphan girl residing with a housekeeper in a lonely mansion. Two ghosts appear, and a struggle for the very lives of the children she is entrusted to protect, begins. Playing upon the similarities of the stories, the company will blend the play with elements of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.
Similar to last year’s successful thriller The Revenants, the play will take place in a home. The Reformers gave their audiences a terrifying good time last year and look forward to doing it again.

2014 MAiZE at The Pumpkin Patch

Portland Corn Maze
Portland’s original cornfield maze celebrates its 16th season at The Pumpkin Patch on beautiful Sauvie Island in Portland, Oregon. Sixteen years ago, Craig Easterly, founder of the original corn maze, brought his weird idea to Sauvie Island’s famous Pumpkin Patch and it soon became a fall tradition.  The MAiZE attracts 30,000 eager explorers annually to the giant labyrinth of field corn, located just fifteen minutes from downtown Portland.  Portland’s premier agri-tainment attraction, The Maize and The Pumpkin Patch, have combined the local food movement with down home fun on the farm.

The iconic Big Red Animal Barn, 100 year old oak tree, and of course, a tractor pulling in a load of pumpkins are all represented in this classic farm themed MAiZE design.  The MAiZE encourages visitors to come out and enjoy the rest of this fantastic summer we have all been enjoying as they lose themselves in the two miles of twist and turns in the five acre cornfield.

Portland Festival Symphony- July 26th

Portland Festival Symphony
This summer, Maestro Lajos Balogh and Portland Festival Symphony celebrate 34 years
of presenting free, live classical music in Portland’s beautiful parks.

When Maestro Balogh first came to this country in 1967, he had a dream to honor his
newly found freedom by offering free classical music to the people of Portland. The
concerts began with two free performances at Washington Park in the summer of 1980
and have grown into an annual summer series with five free concerts in five parks
totaling more than150 performances. These concerts have attracted over 400,000
Oregonians and visitors from all over the world.

The Portland Festival Symphony concerts are funded by generous donations from local
companies, foundations, government grants and thousands of individuals who contribute
from $5 to more than $1,000.

Portland Festival Symphony concerts bring neighbors together, expose thousands of
children to the joy and beauty of classical music, and encourage classical music lovers to
seek out parks that they have not visited before. These concerts are just one more reason
Portlanders love this great city

Park Features: Includes boat dock, boat ramp, disabled access restroom, dog off-leash area, paths – paved, picnic tables, stage, and WiFi.

Historical News!
The site which now bears the name Cathedral Park is steeped in history. It is believed to be one of the 14 Lewis and Clark landing sites in the Vancouver-Portland area: William Clark and eight men camped there on April 2, 1806. This spot had been a fishing and camping site for many area Indian tribes. In 1847, the founder of St. Johns, James John, settled on the site and operated a ferry to Linnton across the Willamette River. In 1931, the St. Johns Bridge was built on the site with 400-ft towers and a main span of 1,207 feet. It is the only steel suspension bridge in Portland and is designated as an official historical landmark.

welcome families to Dairyville, a Western-themed “town” located right on the 52-acre dairy
farm.
A Portland tradition for over 50 years, kids and adults flock to the streets of Dairyville during the
summer months to explore this fun pioneer exhibit. Visitors can peak into Grandma’s Bakery,
the Great Western Bank, the Dairyville School, and the post office. Kids can watch model trains
chug through tiny Oregon landscapes and learn from some of the area’s train club experts. And
no Dairyville visit would be complete without stopping off at the Ice Cream Parlor for a
delicious Alpenrose ice cream cone.

Dairyville is free to the public and open every Sunday afternoon beginning June 2nd through
August 25th from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. Bring the entire family to Dairyville at Alpenrose Dairy,
located at 6149 SW Shattuck Road, off the Beaverton Hillsdale Highway.

The Prized Centerpiece of the Rose Festival

Grand Floral Float - Portland Rose Festival
A cherished highlight of the Portland Rose Festival, this popular procession is more than a spectacular floral-filled parade; it’s a beloved annual tradition. For more than 100 years, Portland families, visitors and community groups have been making memories at the Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade. A colorful reflection of local, regional and international communities, the parade draws hundreds of thousands of cheering viewers of every age, along a 4.2 mile route that winds through city streets and across the river.
This year’s flavorful and flower-ful celebration will fulfill anyone’s appetite for spectacle. Emphasizing visual and auditory entertainment on a grand scale, the parade features 14 all-floral floats, 17 marching bands, 19 equestrian units and many other special entries. Vintage vehicles, flag-festooned marching groups and colorful dancers are icing on the cake. And watch for that royal reveler, the Clown Prince, waving from his own moving throne!

2014 Grand Marshal
One of the largest marching bands in the world, the One More Time Around Again Marching Band presented by Standard TV & Appliance is marching through Rose Festival events for the 30th straight year! To mark this historic occasion, the OMTAAMB is honored as the Grand Marshal of the 2014 Spirit Mountain Casino Grand Floral Parade. With 440 members performing in the parade, this Grand Marshal will stretch over two city blocks!

2014 Grand Floral Parade Sections
We Are Oregon, presented by University of Oregon
Everything Oregon includes well known rodeos around the state, like the Pendleton Round-Up and Miss Rodeo Oregon. Led by the University of Oregon Duck Truck, cheerleaders and the Duck himself, the section also celebrates the centennial of the Rose Festival’s first elected queen, as a young woman portrays Thelma Hollingsworth on The Oregonian float.

Spirit of Service, presented by Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon
Color this section red, white and blue! Support our troops with a patriotic float from the Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon. Celebrate patriotism and volunteerism with entries from Navy Band Northwest, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps and Portland Fire & Rescue.

Window on the World presented by The Boeing Company
A vibrant float representing the Portland-Kaohsiung Sister City Association is surrounded by marching and dancing groups, performing traditional dances from China, Mexico, Indonesia and Peru. Popular returning entries include Lee’s Association Lion & Dragon Dance Team and the famous dancing Fresians of Rancho Tres Potrillos.
